The truth about fashion sustainability from what our research has gathered, is that the industry is far from being sustainable. Ways in which to make fashion more sustainable at this stage are still seriously flawed in relation to consumer’s want for convenience.
However, having said that, INGENEUS makes an effort to reduce our environmental impact in multiple ways.
- Our sustainability model focuses on garment longevity and supply in accordance with demand.
- We offer a range of T shirts using organic cotton, which saves on approximately 67% of energy from water usage in comparison to conventional cotton farming and is less impactful on wildlife habitats.
- Our suppliers are certified by the likes of GOTS (The global organic textiles standard), Fair Wear, PETA, Oeko Tex 100, Amfori BSCI (Business social compliance initiative) and Better Cotton Initiative.
- We ensure that our packaging is biodegradable, compostable or made from recycled materials and do not use any plastics packaging products.
- We work as closely to home as possible to reduce our carbon footprint and support the local economy.
As a start up that wants to ensure the highest quality of garments is represented under the INGENEUS brand. Parallel to the lowest environmental impact possible. We have made the calculated decision that the best way for us to spread our message with a sustainable approach, is to focus on providing our community with items of the highest quality and durability, that they will love and care for over the years to come.
Made to Order
Adopting a made to order business model is of major benefit to the environment, as materials that require a lot of energy to produce are not wasted unnecessarily. We prioritise quality for every INGENEUS garment we produce, as the longer our community can get use out of our clothing, the longer our garments will stay out of landfill.
The most sustainable approach we have come across in years of research is being led by the Post Carbon Lab. They are combining photosynthetic micro organisms with fabric made from algae, for T Shirts to conduct photosynthesis when worn.
Rather than a reductive approach to sustainability, this is considered a regenerative approach.
We are open to working with the Post Carbon Lab, however, the price points for Post Carbon Materials are significantly increased to what we aim to deliver in consideration of our market. There are also techniques involved with looking after the garment(s) similar to caring for a household plant. If you would like to know more then please email firstname.lastname@example.org
We maintain an ethical approach to our workings by ensuring that all of our collaborative partners cater to the highest of ethical standards. Any facility that we partner with must hold industry standard certificates to substantiate the ethical treatment of workers, responsible sourcing of materials and reductive approach to carbon emissions.
INGENEUS upholds ethics to respect everybody as equal. The fair treatment of collaborative partners within our organisation is crucial. Which is why we credit all of our collaborative artists appropriately for the work they do with the INGENEUS brand and pay collaboratives fairly.
We try to reduce our carbon footprint by working as close to home as possible. This means sourcing collaboratives, materials and manufacturing services for our collections from within the UK. Our goal moving forwards is to produce all INGENEUS garments on UK soil.
Our materials are sourced from a range of suppliers depending upon the specification of garment. Materials we use for our collections are aimed to be sourced as locally as possible and come from certified suppliers.
We strive for finding sustainable solutions in business to minimise our impact on the environment, and maximise our positive impact on people. We understand that there is a lot more to do to ensure that we are contributing to moving the fashion industry towards a more sustainable future.
We acknowledge there is always more that can be done and hope that with your support, we can continue to build upon our commitment to sustainability.
